• How option writers make money ?
The most common myth yet the most overrated statement used to market options is – Options means limited risk , unlimited gains.
Let’s understand a few facts about option trading specially with Indian prespective-
97% of the options BUYERS in India make losses. Option buying is more like a lottery system. You buy 10 different options, one might become a blockbuster but other 9 may fail miserably eventually becoming zero.
Options trading is toughest considering the plethora of knowledge it demands for effective execution – Knowledge about open interest (OI), option geeks (alpha, beta, theta, gama etc), chart analysis, volume profile , implied volatilty , black scholes model etc. Considering India landscape where most people are job oriented or service oriented, getting time to learn so many things is not possible.
Options initially were not meant for trading, they were used for hedging. It’s our creative minds which has started using it as a tool for trading.
Just think for a while, whenever you go to buy some liquid option, there is always a seller. Now you know that the seller of any options has limited profit potential but unlimited risks. Now, any small retailer wouldn’t take unlimited risk right? Moreover some one is selling option which requires much higher margin which obviously means that some big guy(HNI) or institution is doing so. Clearly, 95% of the activities/profits are generated by institutions and they are selling options. Why would you like to bet against the sharks?
Moral- There are only 2 ways of making money via options-
Writing options or selling options. This is where you take directional view and cash on the time value of money.
Using some options strategies like spreads, strangle ,straddle etc but obviously at places you need to write options to hedge

In future when we grow we have plans to set up branch office. The discussion is going on to set up branch office at Pune & Jaipur.
